Edited by: cal nereus on 03/08/2007 15:00:22 If you can implement arena-style PvP without taking away from the existing PvP system at all... ya, I'd get behind that.
Problem is, I don't think it can be done successfully. ---

I have to admit, the OP just provided the best counter-argument for his own argument. Nonetheless, I'll just repeat it: if the players are already doing it themselves, then that means CCP doesn't need to do anything. CCP should only implement changes that the players want but can't make for themselves. If the players can make it themselves, then that means the sandbox system is working. ---

Edited by: cal nereus on 04/08/2007 15:40:42 I think most players have at least a certain desire for PvP, or at least some form of combat. However, their simultaneous desire for fairness acts as a barrier against their desire for PvP. To be honest, I'm not really looking for fairness in Eve. To a certain degree, it is necessary for all the players to have common backgrounds and features such that they don't have huge advantages that they didn't earn, but aside from that, I'm perfectly fine with fighting an unfair battle. Either as the underdog or the favorite. Reason being that I don't see PvP as a duel, as a shooting match, or as an opportunity to achieve personal glory. I willingly go into PvP expecting to die, and expecting to have only a relatively small impact on the outcome. But I do expect to have an impact, and I do expect to help get some kills before I die. That's the kind of PvP that exists in Eve right now, and I don't want it threatened. ---

I'm a casual gamer. I PvP. I'm in an alliance.
If you want to PvP, what is stopping you from fighting? ---

Edited by: cal nereus on 05/08/2007 13:40:15 2 hours is plenty of time to get a good fight if you really want it. The arena is just for lazy folks who would probably have more fun playing Battlefield 2 anyways...
Edit: If you want a fair fight, you can always fight a corp-mate right? I'm sure you can trust them... ---

I thought Eve was about the freedom to be mean, unfair, cold-hearted, underhanded, crazy or stupid? Oh, and also the freedom for players to make pacts, friendships, coalitions, agreements, and develop bonds of trust. ---

Here's a question I haven't seen asked: Why do we want High-sec mission runners (also referred to by the broader term carebears) enjoying the PvP experience in the first place? If they aren't already PvPing, it might be in the game's collective best interest to not try making the PvP element of the game appeal to them. They're obviously willing to pay the monthly fees without PvP in their diet. ---
